Rain.

In the car this afternoon, Emma gave me a little lesson in how the world works-
"Rain is kisses from Mother Nature. When you feel raindrops you know that she loves you."

It seriously doesn't get much better than that.

My Little Open Book

It has been so much fun to watch and listen as Drew grasps this English language. I love that he is learning to use words to express his emotions rather than his actions.

For example, now, instead of hitting at me when he is upset he just points his finger at me and says, "Mommy! Time Out!"

At church today, I can't remember exactly what I said, but Emma agreed and said, "Me, too!" and Drew piped in with a "Me, three!" I was so glad Tom heard it too because it totally caught me off guard! Just cute!

Drew is a very polite little boy. When asked if he wants something, like dinner or his shoes on, he will ponder his response and then happily respond.
"uuuummmmm.... no, please!"

I think my mom said it best~ He is like a little book that just needed to be opened!

He is just the best little bundle of a boy!

When Somebody Loved Me...

We went to Culver's this evening for dinner and some frozen custard (and GREAT service!). One the way home Emma began to cry.
A real cry, not her fake one.
She kept saying she wished that I was a little girl like her. And as she cried she told me all the things we would do together...

We would ride our bikes- but not in the road.
We would build sandcastles at preschool.
We would sit by each other at snack time and share our food.
We would splash each other in the tub.

She went on and on, almost inconsolable. Her daddy and I would distract her for a few seconds but she would always pause and go back to tears.
"I just wish you were a little girl with me!" she would sob.
It was breaking my heart and her daddy was even feeling it a little. We had no idea where this sadness was coming from.
Until she said,
"Why did Jesse's owner get big and forget her?"
*ah hah!*
We had watched Toy Story 2 this afternoon and I remember her being very focused and asking a lot of questions during Jesse's song about her owner growing up and not playing with her anymore. Emma was able to express, finally, that because I was big, like Jesse's owner Emily, and she was little, like Jesse, that she was afraid I would forget about her.

After many hugs and kisses I explained to her that she is mine forever. We are a forever family because Daddy and I were married in the temple. She seemed to calm down.

Then we watched the trailer to Toy Story 3 because she needed to see Jesse and Woody with Woody's owner, Andy.

When the toys get dumped at the daycare I just told her they were there for a play-date. I was not getting into Andy going off to college and leaving them all behind...

We'll save that one for another Saturday afternoon movie!

Identity Crisis

Go Girl is SO last Tuesday.

Yesterday Emma told me she was "Super Weather Power Girl and I can control the weather."
I asked her to make it snow and she informed me that she can only makes the weather do what we are dressed for.

We never know, from moment to moment, who or what she is. She can go from a hedgehog to Super Reader in the blink of an eye.

Interestingly enough, she told me today she just wishes she could be 3 again.

No More Halter Tops for Emma

Emma came downstairs and told me she was not Emma, she was, "Go Girl, and I can go anywhere I want... even without saying a prayer."
And off she went.
I told her to tell her dad and she did, with a bit of moderation.
"I am Go Girl, and I play bass in a rock and roll band."

That "thumb-point" at 00:27?
Yeah, that is ALL her dad.

Fresh, fresh paint

The "big" kids recently moved to a new house and Emma likes riding around with her daddy and me while we look at houses. She has decided we need a different house but she has also informed me that we need to paint ours.
Pink on the outside.
Purple on the inside.
...and it's easy. Just "go down the fun street to the Fresh, Fresh Paint Store".
Ok, let me get right on that!

Daddy-Daughter Morning

Emma and her daddy left this morning for the Farmer's Market. I think they just like to walk around in the sunshine and watch the people-

but I usually end up with a beautiful bouquet of flowers out of the deal!

After dropping off the flowers they headed off to breakfast. I love that they have so much fun together.

Happy 4th of July Weekend!

Emma tried on a darling outfit her Aunt Kristin sent her and she asked me what the shirt says.
"I Love the USA"
Emma asked what the USA was and I told her it is where we live.
"You mean like Earth?" she clarified.
"A little smaller." I replied.
"Oh," she got it--
"Like Mercury."

I guess I asked for that one!

Little Boys and Trains

Our Family

At dinner we asked Emma, "Who is your favorite Daddy?"
She got that one right! "Who is your favorite Mommy?"
Again, she answered correctly.
So next we asked, "Who is your favorite older brother?"
She hesitated a little on that one so we clarified, thinking she was trying to sort out Drew who is younger and Tommy who is older.
"Who is your favorite big brother, one who is bigger than you?
She thought for a minute and her little face lit up when she figured out the best answer-
"JESUS!"

Mad Skills!

Emma came into the kitchen excited about her new skill! "Look!" she called to her daddy, "I can balance on TWO FEET!"

I know, I know. It's time to enroll her in gymnastics, those 2018 Olympics are just around the corner!

Maybe Someday He Will Even Ask for Directions!

Drew has no fear and will climb up or jump off of anything. Sometimes, however, he gets stuck. And when he does he is not afraid to admit it. He simply calls out, "Help me! Help me!" and he knows someone who loves him will be right there for support.

"Look, Mommy! It's like a city of glue!"

Makes Perfect Sense to Me

Emma, to Henry Taylor, while playing house, "Your name isn't Henry anymore. It's Honey. And you will do everything I say because I am the wife."

Grandpa and Grandma

Emma, after bedtime prayers, asked, "Mommy, are Grandpa and Grandma close?
"No, they all live far away."
"But they are close in our hearts. Right, Mommy?"

Emma has no idea that my mom is currently in the hospital with a broken hip, cracked ribs, and a suspicious growth on her thyroid. Emma's words almost made me cry that night.

--then she asked...
"But they are on this planet, right?"

Well, there is Idaho in his genes!

I am sensing a trend here... The boy does enjoy a good french fry!

Life is Good

I would like to say this was a one time deal- eating on the couch instead of at the table. However, he has taken quite a liking to being "tuck-tuck"-ed in with his blanket (Dee) and his meal.

Berries

The Taylor's invited Emma to pick strawberries with them one bright Saturday morning in June. Emma apparently had been dreaming of this moment for quite some time. She has "waited, like, 100 years to pick berries!"

Nate Taylor, often known as "The Bubble Burster" tried to give her a reality check by explaining that she is only 4 and so those other 96 years weren't really a possibility. She tuned him out by singing, "Teach Me How to Bucky". Or "Enter Sandman". I'm not sure which song was rockin' the minivan at that time.

"It's easy..."

Emma borrowed the Taylor's tricycle while they wandered off to Disneyworld for, like, 5 weeks or something... Anyway, She decided she needed her own and proceeded to explain to me how to get one.
"It's easy. You get in the car and go down the funnest road to the Tricycle With Ding-Ding Bells shop."

Welcome!

I don't know that everyone thinks Emma and Drew are as adorable, brilliant, and gifted as I do and so it is quite possible that my Facebook friends get a little tired of status updates revolving around my children. I decided to create a place dedicated entirely to the amazing and heart warming things they do. I want to document the things they say and do and I want to not only share them with you, but I want Emma and Drew to have this as a memory of the children they were as they grew into the big people they will become.
